A Note from the Authors

A Note from the Authors We are thrilled to share our children's picture book about emotions with you. In creating this book, we drew inspiration from a Chan (In Chinese:禅) concept: “The outside world is a reflection of our inner world.”(In Chinese: 外境是内心的显现) How we perceive the world depends on us, our emotions colour the world around us.

Our state of mind affects how we view the world, even when looking at the same thing! “Mirror” is an analogy, for seeing things clearly as they are.

Through different characters like Rila the rabbit (happy/joyful), Herman the hedgehog(fear/scared/anxious), Danni the deer (calm/peaceful) and Bayo the bear(angry/mad/upset), different emotions and their impact on our world are explored. The book may inspire creative ideas, such as using weather to express emotions “Your inner weather report” and diverse music to represent different feelings.

Our intention is to inspire self-exploration and mindfulness in children and adults alike. May readers find inner peace, happiness, and serenity.

May we all learn to reflect and shift our mindset in difficult situations. Remember, we have the power to change the immediate world around us.

Thank you for joining us on this journey!

More Teaching
Ideas

There are several teaching ideas involved in the story:

1.Feeling and emotions, self-exploration

2.Spring and forest animals

3.WeatherLinking weather with emotions was another teaching idea I wanted to put in the book.

For one of the units I taught at school, my students needed to express their emotions using weather. For example, I would ask them, “What’s your weather today?”

From students’ ideas windy and stormy =angry, rainy=sad, sunny=happy. This idea was integrated into the book to make the book more interesting and to give more teaching ideas.
